Calgary Hitmen Executive Vice President, Alternate Governor and General Manager Kelly Kisio announced today that the club has acquired a fourth round pick in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft and fifth round pick in the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft from the Vancouver Giants in exchange for overage forward Trevor Cheek.
“This move enables the Hitmen to meet the league’s three overage player allowance,” said Kisio. “We wish Trevor all the best in his final WHL season and thank him for his efforts in Calgary.”
Cheek, a native of Vancouver, WA, recorded 23 goals and added 26 assists for 49 points along with 75 penalty minutes over 67 games as a member of the Hitmen in 2011-12. Over two full seasons in Calgary, he tallied 74 points, including 33 goals, in 124 games played.
The 20-year-old left winger was a protected list addition by the Hitmen in January 2010. In three 2012 pre-season contests, Cheek registered five points including a four-point performance (1g, 3a) in a 4-2 win over the Red Deer Rebels on September 7.
Calgary’s 25-player roster now includes three overage players: forwards Brooks Macek and Cody Sylvester as well as defenceman Spencer Humphries.
