Game Preview: Hitmen Look To End Skid
Two teams badly needing a win.
Something’s gotta give.
The Hitmen take on the Blazers in Kamloops Wednesday night (8 p.m. MTN, WHL LIVE), in a matchup where both clubs desperately want the two points to gain some ground in the standings.
After a 7-1 loss to the Prince George Cougars Tuesday night, the Hitmen have now lost five in a row, with their last win back on Sept. 23 against the Kootenay ICE, and are pointless since a 6-5 overtime loss to the Prince Albert Raiders on Sept. 29.
Matteo Gennaro scored the lone Hitmen goal last night to pick up his team leading sixth of the year and the Hitmen’s fourth powerplay goal of the season, while Nick Schneider made 14 saves, before Matthew Armitage stepped in in the third to turn aside 13.
The Hitmen are currently operating at 18.2% with the man-advantage, sitting at 16th in the league, while tied for second in penalty-killing at 87.1%.
Kamloops is still searching for their first win this season, and are coming off a 4-3 loss to the Seattle Thunderbirds on Oct. 8. Jackson Sheppard, Nick Chyzowski and Brodi Stuart found the back of the net, with goaltender Max Palaga turning aside 11 shots.
The Blazers powerplay sits 15th in the league at 18.8%, and have struggled when down a man with a penalty-killing mark of 69.2%.
Last season, the Hitmen won both games against the Blazers, and the two will meet twice more this season on Jan. 19 in Calgary and Feb. 3 back in B.C.
