Calgary, AB – The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club today announced they have acquired the rights to 16-year-old defenceman Jonathan Tychonick (ty-con-ick) from the Saskatoon Blades in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft and a conditional first-round selection.
“Jonathan is an elite talent in his age group and we are very excited to acquire his rights,” said Hitmen General Manager and Vice President of Business Operations Mike Moore. “We have watched Jonathan play at many major events, including the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge and the 2015 Western Canada U-16 Challenge Cup, and every time he was one of the best players on the ice.”
Tychonick, who was originally selected by the Blades 12th overall in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft, has been playing this season in the BCHL with the Penticton Vees. The Calgary native recently suited up for Canada White at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge and tied for the team-lead in scoring with four points (4a) in six games.
