Hitmen Complete Trade With Swift Current

The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club today announced they have acquired the rights to 17-year-old defenceman Ethan Martini or a conditional third-round pick in the 2020 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft from the Swift Current Broncos in exchange for 19-year-old forward Andrew Fyten.

“Ethan is an unsigned prospect but we believe he has the ability to be a physical shutdown defenceman in our league,” said Hitmen general manager Jeff Chynoweth.  “The Hitmen would also like to thank Andrew for his contributions to our organization both on and off the ice.”

Martini was originally selected by the Broncos in the third round of the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft.  He has spent the last two seasons in the BCHL with the Trail Smoke Eaters.  Martini also has ties to Calgary having played two seasons at Edge School including time as a teammate of current Hitmen forward Tristen Nielsen and goaltender Matthew Armitage.  The condition in the deal is should Martini not sign with the Hitmen, Calgary will receive the Broncos third-round pick in 2020.
