The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club would like to congratulate defenceman Jake Bean on being invited to Canada’s National Junior Team Sport Chek Selection Camp.

The 19-year-old is one of 32 players receiving the nod today to take part in the camp which runs Dec. 12-15 at Meridian Centre in St. Catharines, ON.  It features a trio of games – two against a U SPORTS team on Dec. 13 and 14, and a contest against Denmark on Dec. 15 before the final roster is named.  Canada opens the World Junior Tournament in Buffalo on Boxing Day against Finland.

The 2016 first-round pick of the Carolina Hurricanes helped Team Canada win silver at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship.

Bean is in his fourth season with the Hitmen and currently leads the club in scoring with 25 points in 24 games.  His Hitmen resume is impressive highlighted by a pair of franchise records.  In 2015-16 he tallied 24 goals to set a new single-season franchise mark for goals by a blueliner while in 2014-15 he also established a club record for most points by a rookie defenceman with 39.  Bean is a two-time winner of the Hitmen Tommy Gun’s Original Barbershop Top Defenceman Award and has also received the Hitmen Booster Club Fan Favourite, Chrysler Canada Inc. Scholastic Player Award and RE/MAX Rookie of the Year honour in addition to being named WHL Eastern Conference Most Sportsmanlike Player in 2015-16 and a WHL Second Team All-Star in 2016-17.

During the summer of 2015 he also helped Canada capture its eighth consecutive gold medal at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup in Breclav, Czech Republic, and Piestany, Slovakia.
