The Cowboys are in action for the second game of the Corral Series presented by Adrenalin Source For Sports, this time against the Regina Pats.
Following a 5-1 victory over the Rebels, the Cowboys are looking for a second straight win and continue their six game point streak which has seen them go 5-0-0-1 in the stretch. Mark Kastelic scored a pair of goals against Red Deer with Carson Focht, Kaden Elder and James Malm also lighting the lamp. Jack McNaughton made 23 saves to record his 19th win of the season.
Cowboys vs Rebels Feb. 2
Wednesday marks the third of four regular season meetings between the Cowboys and Pats with the road team winning the past two tilts. The last meeting was last Tuesday Jan. 29 which saw the Cowboys come out on top with a 5-2 win. Kastelic (2G, 3A) and Elder (1G, 4A) lead the Cowboys in the season series with five points each.
The Pats head into the contest following a 2-1 shootout win over Lethbridge Tuesday night and have gone 2-7-0-1 in their last ten games played.
With 57 points so far, the Cowboys sit two back of Red Deer for the first wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference and three back of Medicine Hat for third in the Central Division.
“Things are really tight and this is the time that you need to play your best every night,” head coach Steve Hamilton said. “The atmosphere last game at the Corral was unbelievable and this game will be no different.
“At the end of the day, we need the two points.”
Friday night will see the Cowboys become the Wranglers to wrap up the Corral Series with the final meeting of the season against Prince Albert.
Kaden Elder (3G, 8A) is riding a five-game point streak.
Mark Kastelic (6G, 4A), Carson Focht (3G, 2A), and Riley Stotts (5A) all have points in four straight games.
Layne Toder (1G, 2A) is on a three-game point streak while Vladislav Yeryomenko (2A) has points in back-to-back games.
Jack McNaughton is 4-0-1-0 in his last five starts with a 2.20 goals against average and a .923 save percentage.
James Malm (5G, 5A) has points in seven of his last eight games.
Kaden Elder is one game shy of 300.
Riley Stotts is one point away from 100 while Mark Kastelic is two points shy of 150 and three games short of 250.
Egor Zamula needs two assists for 50 while Carson Focht is three assists away from 50.
