Let the games begin.

The Hitmen hit the road for a season high seven game road swing starting Friday night in Cranbrook to take on the ICE. It’s the third of eight meetings between the rivals with both teams splitting the first two games of the season series.

Last contest was Sunday afternoon at the Scotiabank Saddledome which saw the Hitmen come away with a convincing 7-3 win. Carson Focht and James Malm led the way with four points each (1G, 3A) while Riley Stotts chipped in with three (2G, 1A). As the Hitmen head into ICE territory, of note over the last five seasons the Hitmen are 7-3-1-0 at Western Financial Place.  Despite two games in one week against one another, the two won’t meet again until Sunday, Jan. 27 in Calgary.

After snapping a four-game winless skid, the Hitmen head out with some confidence which they know is huge for the long trip. The last time this season that the Hitmen went on a longer trip was back in mid-October which saw them finish with a 3-2 mark.

“It’s a huge road trip for us,” Carson Focht said. “I think it’s going to be a good time for the boys to bond and I think it’s going to show with our play on the ice.

“We know we need some points. We’re going to be focused in on every game and I think we should see the points pile up.”

Following the conclusion of the rivalry bout, the Hitmen are right back in action Saturday night when they make the first stop on the U.S. portion of the trip in Spokane.
