The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club is proud to announce the 26th annual Teddy Bear Toss will take on a new look this holiday season in the form of a teddy bear collection and ‘Teddy Bear Lane’.  The safe, socially distanced three-day event will be held from December 4-6.

Teddy Bear Lane will permit socially distanced vehicles to proceed to the Fifth Street SE traffic loop entrance of the Scotiabank Saddledome.  At the end of the loop, occupants, one vehicle at a time, will then be allowed to toss their bears into an inflatable outdoor rink.  Teddy Bear Lane will include music, a video screen, decorated trees and even a visit from Santa along with holiday displays from Siksika Nation and Flames Sports Bank.

Bears will be available for purchase on site while another option allows fans who cannot attend in person the opportunity to purchase a Calgary Zoo panda bear online starting at $15 plus fees and GST.  The Hitmen will donate those stuffed animals on your behalf with net proceeds to benefit the Calgary Zoo and Calgary Hitmen Foundations.

“Even though we are unable to hold our traditional teddy bear toss game this December due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there is still a tremendous need from Southern Alberta charities for stuffed toys this holiday season,” said Hitmen Assistant Manager of Business Operations Rob Kerr.  “There is currently demand for over 18,000 bears but that number is expected to grow as we move closer to December.  It is our hope the great citizens of Calgary and area will support this unique collection so we can once again help the many agencies that need our support.”

More than 40 charitable organizations will receive the stuffed toys including; The Salvation Army, Calgary Food Bank, Alberta Children’s Hospital, Cerebral Palsy Association, Cochrane and area Event Society, Wood’s Homes, Horizon Housing Society and Make-A-Wish Southern Alberta.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, all bears collected will go through a rigorous screening and then quarantine before ultimately being gifted to the agencies on Thursday, Dec. 10.  Any additional charities interested in receiving bears from this year’s collection can join the list on or before Dec. 2 at
