The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club today announced they will make two picks in the 2019 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft. The online draft will consist of two rounds and will be held Thursday, June 27.
Beginning at 9:00 a.m. MT, fans can follow it live at www.chl.ca/draft with Calgary’s first round pick 37th overall and second round selection 97th overall.
CHL teams are allowed to play a maximum of two import players. The Hitmen have an open spot after Vladislav Yeryomenko was traded to the Moose Jaw Warriors at the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft as part of a package deal to acquire Vancouver Canucks prospect Jett Woo. Since returning defencemen Egor Zamula inked a three-year contract with the Philadelphia Flyers last fall, he is eligible to be transferred to the NHL reserve list allowing the Hitmen to make a second selection in the draft.
Zamula, who led all Calgary defencemen in scoring last season and took home the Speedpro Signs Calgary NE Top Defenceman Award, has spent parts of two seasons with the Hitmen tallying 74 points in 130 games.
The selection order of the draft rotates through the WHL, QMJHL and OHL using an inverse order of the final regular season standings from the 2018-19 season.
Past Calgary Hitmen Import Draft selections include: Vladislav Yeryomenko (2016), Pavel Karnaukhov (2014), Radel Fazleev (2013), Pavel Padakin (2012), Victor Rask (2011), Bostjan Golicic (2007), Freddie Pettersson (2005), Konstantin Pushkarev (2004), Fredrik Sjostrom (2001) and Pavel Brendl (1998).
